A new day for old world tradition
I live in Calgary, AB Canada with my husband, 3 teenagers & awaiting our 4th child (our Haitian princess) who we adopt & bring home this year. As we get our social media platforms ramped up, you will see this story unfold. It's a love story like none other.
I passionately believe in the power of creativity, hobbies, & high quality textiles & wools. We hunt down hard-to-find kits in needlepoint, rug hooking/punching and quilting from all over the world. I source products & textiles that will endure the test of time, worthy of passing down the family lineage as a legacy of you. We seem to have lost this mindset along the way & Makers of Canada believes you are only as good as your tools.
It's time for a new generation of artists & artisans to bring back the "old textile arts" in modern ways. It's time for new patterns, new designs, new hobbies...new blood. If the pandemic has taught us anything, its that we are at our core, capable of astounding creativity.
Also, it's important we connect with youth to respect old traditions but with the creative license to be edgy with the techniques. This is why we work with the Canadian & US school curriculum to offer kits that enhance the lesson plans & teach kids a mindful hobby with a rich cultural history. The mental health benefits of learning a new skill are a bonus.
Creativity is lost if we can't connect & share our love of all things art & craft. Its not about perfection either, because it's most often in our mistakes that we create mind-blowing pieces. It's in the quirks of our creations that we realize that, in fact, individualism is what art is all about. You will inspire others in the process!
